sURGE was a 3-hour performance in which I invited the audience to control the voltage of electricity entering my body. As I lie on the floor, they turn nobs on a TENS unit to send electricity into my legs and abdomen via electrodes. Pulsations cane be seen from under my skin. The purpose is to create chaos in my nervous system, disrupt danger signals to my brain, and provide temporary relief of chronic pain.

sURGE was part of the performance program In Their Own Image, curated by Chloë Flores. It took place in the VALIE EXPORT exhibition Embodied at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles.
